     In the Mayenne lies a treasure trove of historical sites of exceptional charm and character : chateaux , castles manor houses, keeps, countryhouses, fortresses etc…

     It's a romantic part of France with very different landscapes and picturesque sites. The visitor can travel through 40000 years of history from prehistoric times to the present day.

     For centuries the Mayenne was the main route to Brittany and Normandie and has known a tumultuous history. Visitors will see medieval forteresses and fortifications (Sainte-Suzanne).

     They will hear stories of the wars against the invaders and of fratricidal battles which tore the kingdom apart. They'll be charmed walking along old streets in LAVAL, CHATEAU-GONTIER or ST DENIS D'ANJOU and impressed by the quality of the museums.
